Reflecting...

As year approaches an end, guess it's natural to reflect on the year...

2008 has been rather significant for me coz I
1) was involved in the very-successful OT Day at my workplace
2) got my driver's licence
3) baked almost every weekend
4) discovered places in SG with beautiful scenery
5) attended my sec sch tcher's wedding
6) had a great time in Macau with my dear aunt
7) was granted no-pay leave for my studies
8) stepped into an unfamiliar environment for studies
9) saw the most flowers in my whole life!
10) experienced God's works of nature I never seen before
11) made some memorable friendships
12) realised I enjoyed giving tuition
13) became more independent as a result of coming to Adelaide
14) built stronger relationships while away
15) realised how it is like to miss friends and family
16) joined a church congregation which made me feel at home
17) scored high distinctions for my assignments (which I never had in NYP!)

For the coming year, I just pray that
1) my family and friends will be healthy and happy
2) I'll continue to be blessed by His richness
3) I'll be able to go NZ with Elain
4) I will score better results esp for my PCP
5) I'll be a good host to my friends/family who are thinking of coming over to visit me
6) I'll hv a good housemate
7) I'll leave beautiful memories with those who blessed me here in Adelaide
8) I'll have a safe trip home
9) whichever team or place I'm allocated to, that I'll be able to cope
10) I can continue to build stronger friendships and relationships
11) I can share my ADL experience and take on lessons I've learnt into life
12) Deb n her fiance and Cel n Kelvin will hv a blissful marriage

Woo hoo! I managed to finish a video of my family's (minus mum) trip! Think record time! Haha..so happy now..email me if u want to view it!

I miss SG's healthcare system

In the morning was trying to get appt to see Dr abt my foot but the clinics were either full or they only reopen next mon! Can't imagine if really sick how lor..sick still hv to make appt to see Dr...I miss SG's healthcare system!!! So I decided to self-treat and see how it is next week.

Went out today...went to Red Cross's store...didn't get anything..then "stupidly" took the Circle line and took 1.25hrs to get to Arndale (according to K is a Vietnamese suburb here)..didn't get anything from there either..went back to city to get my garlic n borrow DVDs...managed to borrow "Must Love Dogs", "Big Fish", "Juneburg", "Analyze that", "Apres Vous", "握手" n "Before Sunset".

Min's taking the plane to Melb tonight, arriving tmr and arriving in Adl via GOR on Sunday evening...then we'll be heading to KI if all goes as planned (coz I haven't booked! Hehe).

Oh..finally my bro gave me link for the photos with ppl...asked him to remove some ugly shots but he won't...arghsss...throw face...anyway, was happily seeing the photos from Christmas eve gathering, including a video of my naughty nephew crying n peeping...hah..n him taking drink cans out of the cooler box and goodies out from the basket. Of all, I particularly like this shot..v nostalgic...haha

boring day

Was kinda bored today...stopped myself from watching too many episodes of "妙手人心III" at a go else later on I won't hv much to do. Only left the hse for 30mins to jog/walk. Oh...called my dear ah ma too...finally managed to get her..coz she was out yday..she said nothing to do then bake or cook lor..then I say cannot else I'll gain more weight..already my relatives said can tell I gained weight! Arghss!

Looked at k's previous tenant (a jap guy)'s hol VCD and wedding photos...quite interesting to see Jap wedding..also saw the gifts her jap friends sent over..

Anyway, I decided to make pizza for dinner coz there was offer for pizza base on Sat while I was out...ingredients are fritz (aka luncheon meat), leftover lamb (auntie LF packed for me), carrots and olives. Don't ask why there's carrot...haha..coz I wanted some veggies in my meal...wanted to add broccoli but thot it may seem strange..ha! So here it is!

Will head out tomorrow to go to the bank (wish me luck), get garlic from central market, explore some suburbs and borrow some DVDs...

And also forgot to mention in the previous entry...I was blessed with homegrown apricots!! They're soooo sweet! THanks to Auntie LF who gave me a big bag! Save $ n time of gg Central Market to buy..she gave me homegrown plums too...looking forward to persimmon season..hehe..*eyeing persimmon tree!*

Christmas!

Just back from Auntie LF and Uncle Jason's place not long ago...last min got invited to their place for dinner..they were v paiseh coz they kinda forgot about me..haha..but I also wasn't expecting them to coz they're also pretty busy.

Church today was pretty good...took some photos of the Nativity Scene...got to see friendly church members and pastor's wife, Carolyn again...realised some of them missed me..haha! I was away for a few weeks..

Auntie A and Uncle J...my lovely church members who gave me pandan chiffon cake, kaya, hei bee hiam, sambal, rendang n invited me over for homecooked dinner once...

Went back and helped with lunch preparations...K's two sisters, J and S (K's sons) and their gfs came...

lunch spread: Roast turkey breast roll (v healthy!), roast chicken, roast vege, boiled broccoli, ham, smoked salmon, fruit punch, plum pudding with brandy custard and my apple pie (unpictured)

Found it a bit strange coz they opened presents before lunch and they sure have positive comments abt the presents! Ohh..I played with opening crackers twice! Finally I know what's in those crackers they sell at the store! I got a notepad from Perth (from K's sis who stays in Perth), a beautiful terrier cookie tin with shortbread cookies (from K's sis, M, who stays near us) and a DVD "Looking for Alibrandi" (from K). I really liked the tin I got and it was so apt coz I told my bro when we were looking at the Christmas gift sets tt I want to buy the tins home but will wait till after Christmas when they're marked down...they have lovely-designed metal tins here! As for the DVD, K said it's Aussie film n is quite nice..it'll be a souvenir for me. Glad K liked the brooch my mum got for her, the pedometer and the magnet I got for her, J liked the Nike cap I got for him, S liked the dark chocolates and K's sis (M) liked the compact mirror...

Oh..the funny part was coz the Fan family (mx's church coordinators and the family I stayed with when I was in Melb) gave me a box of 30s Ferrero Rocher, I decided to share it with everyone over lunch coz I don't intend to finish eating all...then I opened Auntie A and Uncle Jerry's present then realised it's another box of Rocher! My god..haha..so brought over to Auntie LF and Uncle Jason's place to share coz I really dun wanna end up eating too many chocs. My grandma and cel said looks like I gained weight already!! Arghs!! Got a shoe-shaped notepad n pen set from Auntie LF and Uncle Jason.

Christmas Dinner spread at Auntie LF and Uncle JY's place: Roast pork shoulder, roast veal, roast lamb, achar, roasted mushrooms, roasted potatoes and pumpkin, boiled prawns, salad, boiled vegetables and my apple and nectarine tart (not pictured here)

me with Auntie LF, Uncle J's sister, Ivy and her family

I learnt how to play mahjong!!! Haha..so funny...come ADL n learn...hah..and v nice of auntie LF and family to invite me for their CNY reunion dinner!

Felt a bit out of place at lunch (dun quite get their slangs n conversations..haha) so did chores instead...better than standing ard not knowing what to do..haha..helping ard is always a safe thing to do! Felt more at home at dinner..haha..looking forward to CNY now. Felt a bit homesick after lunch coz it's nothing like spending Christmas with my own family...is my first Christmas away from home and it'll be my 1st CNY away from home too...but felt much better after dinner..Just glad that one of my church member wanted to invite me for lunch if I wasn't spending Christmas with anyone...

Updates from family trip

Here's an update of what we did when my dad and bro came over...
Day 1: Collected the car and headed to the apartment only to find out that the person didn't leave anything..spotted many motorcycles decorated v beautifully coz of the toy run event and also spotted the old tram at Glenelg! Hurried snapped a pic of it from the car. Carried on with the Dolphin Cruise at Port Adelaide (lunch on board)...came home to find last min deals for motels and found one along Glen Osmond Rd. Then headed to Elder Park where they so happen were having this Spirit Festival event. Then went Hog's Breath Cafe for dinner - had yummy 18hr slow cooked Prime Ribs.

Day 2: Headed to Barossa Valley for wine tasting and visits..Lunch was at Kies and bought Domino's pizza coz not v hungry

Day 3: Drove to Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbour..on our way back stopped by Warrawong Wildlife sanctuary but coz its free entrance is till 4pm, we didn't hv much time to walk ard...too bad it's not v accessible by public transport. Stopped by Eagle on the Hill but it was nth much. Lunch was at Victor's Fish and Chips at Victor Harbor and Dinner was at XXX

Day 4: Returned the car and went to Central Market (to look see since it was still quite early) then went to Marion Shopping Centre, Glenelg beach and Harbourtown Shopping Centre. Lunch was Oporto (flame-grilled chicken) and dinner was roast chicken from Woolworths

Day 5: Mount Lofty Summit and Hahndorf. Lunch was yummy pot belly pie at Pot Belly Pie cafe and "A Taste of Germany" platter at Hahndorf Inn...

Day 6: Had coffee at Cibo Express then went to the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, Haigh's Visitor Centre (which we missed the tour coz of the "wonderful" public transport and bus driver) and then Chinatown/Central Market. Late lunch was at Dumpling House where we ordered the 大排卤蛋面, 台湾牛肉面 and 饺子...yums..then headed to Rundle Mall for late night shopping, went Central market to get wine and fruits (fruits were cheap that night) then went back to Rundle Mall coz bro wanted to take night scenery (and I finally got to see the display above Hungry Jacks.

Day 7: Went to Hahndorf for lunch (yummy pot belly pie! and German pork knuckle) then went Rundle Mall, stopped by for Hudsons Coffee and then went to the Museums

Day 8: Moved over to St Morris Apartment...we were all vvv pleased with the place coz it was vv homely! Went to Glenelg's Hog's Breath for lunch (but they didn't hv the 18hr prime ribs and serving was much lesser than the 1st time we had at Gouger St). After tt went to Harbourtown to buy some fruits (surprisingly fruits there is v cheap). Drank ice coffee at Gloria Jeans (it was a vvv warm day that day..max was 32deg!). Cooked pork chops for everyone for dinner...

Day 9: Went to Robern Menz (company tt sells Fruchocs and dried fruit products tt's exclusive to SA) factory outlet store. Late lunch was homecooked beef steaks and dinner was pork knuckle...ate a lot!!

Day 10: After some packing, went to airport. Plane for delayed...then I went to taxation office and was attended by a super rude woman who kept emphasising I'm NOT DEAD so I can't request for early Ax for tax return (which I was advised when I called their hotline). Super irritated with the system..then came home n did my chores..

Overall, ate a lot, drank a lot of wine for me in my entire life but I had a great time coz I got to try most things here I've been wanting to try but can't either coz of portion size or company...n dad complimented my cooking comparable to restaurant's! Hahaha...

Checked my results yday..9-unit project module got credit, 6-unit module got distinction and my 4.5-unit module got high distinction..so funny lor..those of higher weightage didn't get distinction. Hope my 9-unit module next yr..the same module but is the implementation phase can get distinction..

oh yes, thanks to yi and Ellen who sent me cards and Elain who sent me letter (which I think got delayed)!

Looking forward for my church service tmr (haven't been to church for quite some time coz went to Melb n bringing my dad n bro ard) and of course, Christmas lunch at my place..or rather k's place..missed k's and j's graduation during the time my dad n bro were here but saw the photos...quite nice..n I found out they dun rent gowns to go ard scenic places to take photos like in SG..haha!

Have quite a no. of things to do after Christmas/in Jan:
1) call for Dr appt
2) Enrol in modules for next year
3) Go to bank to get statement for the month tax was deducted from my interest
4) Settle the fund application for my project
5) Host min when she's over in Adl
6) Look through the tax return forms to claim back my tax

short update

Just a short update...

I'm back in Adelaide since thur evening. The sunset view at Great Ocean Road was BREATHTAKING! I wanna drive along GOR one day coz every spot is so scenic and can take loads of photos!! My online photo album is up and invited most of u to view...total of 288 photos..haha..happy viewing!

Oh yes, the assignment tt I was worried about..50% of the module and is a joint mark..we got C- and after I clarified stuff with my tutor, we got C+ so it isn't that bad as I expected.

Watched Juno last night with k and j. Quite a nice show...anyway, hv to try and settle accomm by today else our plans hv to change n I've to find alternative accomm! Arghs...owner of the hse and I playing hide n seek! Got to go airport soon...

Shall update about Melb trip later on...but just wanna say my last min frantic over accomm turned out as a blessing in disguise so I'm feeling vvv blessed from the trip!

update

Woo hoo! Got my final assignment back for EO...got HD for 15%..my splint got credit only..oh well..I reckon overall should be a Distinction. Still awaiting my PCP one...arghs..

Anyway yday went Camberwell Sunday Market and I was kinda awed at the no. of stalls and the prices the ppl sold their stuff for...got myself a pair of black wedges =) Had lunch (Calzone Rustico..which reminds me of quiche!) at Sofia, an Italian restaurant. Then went over sj's aunt's place n walked the husky..my god..fur dropped everywhere! Met mx at Lygon for dinner..italian again but this time I had pizza! After dinner tried Kokoblack (a chocolate boutique shop supposedly to be vvv famous) but we all felt the cake was quite dry and hot chocolate was a bit too milky. Mx will be bringing us to this quaint chocolate shop which she said serves thicker hot choc tmr afternoon so looking forward to it!

Today went Williamstown for the beach but it was so-so...had Gelato..yumss..oh ya, dropped by Footscray which I heard from mx is a mini Saigon and yessss! It reminded me of Vietnam except the shops are nicer, roads are more well-paved..had Pho and bought authentic mini baguettes!! Yumss! Kept smelling it while I carried it! Came back to city n got some groceries for apple pie tmr. Oh ya, cooking chicken rice for everyone in the hse tmr dinner and thought of making apple pie too...sj coming over too..so tmr prob will do a bit of sightseeing then do marketing and book Great Ocean Road tour for wed.

day 4 n 5

I knew God had better plans for me for this trip! The female owner of the hse actually packed a lunch box for me!! ARghs...so paiseh! Have to get something nice for them before I leave! Anyway, I cancelled my great ocean rd trip coz I found out hv cheaper prices..was quoted $75 when I called but $90 when I went down to book..will try n sort things out n prob gg next wed instead since sj is keen to join me.

Yesterday went Queen Vic Market...only bought fruits..the stuff like all similar..may go another market tmr morning..then went docklands area again for phototaking..had jap bento for lunch/dinner. Went DFO at city also but didn't get anything though timberland boots were gg for like $60-75 and crocs prima $29.95.

Got a call from sj earlier on saying she has to babysit so will only meet me in pm..so I'll be checking out salvos stores and the vicinity then head to city..depending on weather, may go gardens to hv my homecooked lunch =) After tt meeting sj to go Bridge Rd for shopping. Tmr planning to go beach in pm or elsewhere...see how..and Fri is to Chadstone Shopping Centre (heard it's like vivo) and Mt Dandenongs!

greetings from Melbourne

Greetings from Melbourne! Yup, thankfully, managed to make it here (thanks to mx and church friends). Went out with sj today coz mx had church service n church stuff in late pm. Attended her church service but I didn't really like it..then stayed on for chicken dum briyani the church members cooked..after tt went Docklands (factory outlet stores). And after much consideration, I got myself this bag!! Woo hoo! V happy with my buy coz i've been wanting a sports bag and currently using my bro's nike bag..but this is actually quite big..prob bring for travels. It was on sale..30% off marked price..haha..got myself a top n a dress too coz it was simply too cheap! Ha! Managed to get yi's body scrub too..ex buy I would say...so today spent quite a lot. Dinner was at a Chinese eatery..had house speciality pork chop with rice. Oh yes, I also found the durian smoothie that Rach told me about..quite good but for the price $3.50 for those tall glass, nt tt worth I feel...
So far the impression of melb is LOTS of Asians!! U wouldn't think u're in Aussie! Architectures here are lovely..v oldish kind and European feel...the alleyways are filled with cafes! But the ppl here dun seem as nice as Adl's and according to sj, security here not v gd..but at least I was safe waiting outside the hse for abt an hr before mx n friends came home..haha..Wow..God really protected me coz as I'm typing now, can hear STRONG winds blowing outside!!

Going to Phillip Island tmr..will prob be home quite late..then tue gg Queen Vic Market, wed prob to suburbs just out of city and maybe Queen Vic market at night and then thurs Great Ocean Road and fri prob Mt Dandenongs n Chadstone Shopping Malla (biggest shopping mall). Bought a loaf of Helga's bread, tuna, biscuits, spaghetti n pasta sauce..in case. Will prob cook Chicken Rice for all on tue evening..haha

baking again!

Yup, heading to Melb tmr..quite looking forward to it..will prob book my day tours on mon when I'm there. Though I'll be at least $200+ poorer coz of the day tours, I prob will enjoy it. As planned, I baked some cookies to bring over Melb for mx and her hsemates and couple who own the hse. I must say I'm glad the cookies turn out well coz no mixer was needed! Purely handmade..hehe..then coz I scared not enough and to use up all the flour tt's left, I decided to try the eggless cookie recipe (added chocolate mint chunks and dried apricots) and it worked too!! Woo hoo! So packed quite a lot to bring over but of coz, I kept some for K n J and also some for Rach and also Dad n Jon when I'm back from melb. Yums...

a variety of almond and chocolate mint + almond cookies...

venturing out

Since sch was out and our funding application can't be done till the organisations open their application in Jan again, I hv been heading out past few days..

Today went to other branch of spotlight and was very happy to get the alphabet charms! But waited vvv long for the stupid bus coz it only operates at 30-min intervals and was late! Went to Golden Grove Village (about 35-45min bus ride from the city) after that. Made a fruitful trip as well...got blouses for mum and myself and a pair of baby shoes..hehe..anyway still no luck with lemon cheesecake flavour of cadbury's..hmm..maybe it's really nice?! Went to Central Market and bought a nectarine and 2 apricots..both were at $2.99/kg. Looking forward to more the next few weeks and hopefully it'll be cheaper..haha! But it already is much cheaper than back home...

Watched the news abt Mumbai attacks and also about BKK. V scary to just think if I were there considering BKK has been one of my fave short-trip destinations. Blessed to be here in Aust (not that it's not susceptible to terrorist attacks but much lower risk I guess).

Kinda packed for melb...probably baking some cookies tomorrow..expecting "showers easing" for tmr.

totally pissed

Was sooooo pissed in the afternoon at the agency. Turned out the project was not checked thoroughly. I'm super pissed!! I've done my part but what abt you????? Just wondering if P1 grade is sufficient for you. Well, it is NOT for me. I've to get at least a Credit (65-74%)!! Just my luck. Just hope that the proposal will get at least a credit..I only realised stupid mistakes as we were doing the funding proposal and submitted several times and the last was just 15 mins before the closing of the deadline. Even when I was drafting funding proposal also nt much input. Perhaps is coz she's nt feeling well..said hv stomach pain..sigh...but think it has been tt way? When leaving the agency, I just wanted to talk to my msn khaki or my family so much!! Could feel my blood pressure rising...seriously..so listened to SOP songs on my way home. Think my face was very black by then also. Heng I didn't scream at her lah. At least draft of funding proposal is done..sent to Vic to vet then see what she says on wed..hope application only starts in Jan for all then I can hv my break...haha! Else will hv to work out how to submit when I'm in melb or during my fam trip.

Managed to change the name charms at Spotlight but couldn't find 2 alphabets..asked the ashier and she suggested I go other branches. N guess what? They had a branch near the agency!! I so sotong lah...arghs..will see where their other outlets are then hunt the alphabets down!

Anyway went to Koorong but didn't get anything...then tried to find the co-op shop at Pitt St but dun hv!! Hmm..anyway still undecided where to go tomorrow..either co-op shops, CM or Golden Grove shopping...returned some DVDs and borrowed 3 more including Billy Elliot..

Okay..I'm calmer now. Awaiting good news from mum...*keeping fingers crossed and praying*. Oh, I got a D for my Risk Ax assignment..the one tt's 10% of my 6-unit module. So for that module, it's credit (15%) , distinction (35% + 10%) and high distinction (15%). So hoping to get D or HD for my remaining 15% and I guess I got a P1 or credit for my splint (10%).

good news!

Praise the Lord!! Another friend in melb offered me accomm!! So thrilled and thankful coz initially she said she's in the midst of finding new accomm and she's already staying with a couple n their baby with 2 others. Even told me no need to bring sleeping bag...vv thankful...will prob buy more SA products and bake something over since they don't drink wine. Thanks to all who prayed for me...

Made potato and beef pie for dinner today and served with mushy peas. K commented it's very aussie..haha...I first had mushy peas in syd..n it was served with pies or hot dogs...yums..coz I nv liked peas except when it's crunchy as a snack. N today in church a member was asking me if I cook my own meals and asked if I had roast lamb and barbi (aka BBQ) already since I told her we (K and I) take turns to cook..haha..shared with k n j over dinner. Quite funny coz I indeed had both dishes already!

Oh yes, Sat went out for a few hrs with K...she drove me ard to see see...then we had Hot Chilli Chocolate...my first time trying it! Will bring whoever who comes to try it..haha..anyway I only heard about chilli chocolate from the show "Chocolat". Bought chilli flavoured choc from Lindt to try also but haven't opened.

I really feel blessed each time I think about how much goodness/kindness I've received from people since I came...n K enjoys my presence too..tt's what she said..haha!

And another piece of good news, the 2 tuition kids did quite well for PSLE maths...phew! Though only gave them tuition a few months, glad that they did pretty well! Congrats to them!

Tmr hv meeting at agency for budget then tue-thur probably exploring more places and co-op (2nd hand/thrift) shops!! I enjoy going to co-op shops coz u nv know what u'll find!

boring day

Still no confirmation for accom. Mum and Dad told me to forgo the tix if really can't find proper accom (they dun like the idea of me staying in backpackers inn alone). But hv hope from my other NYP friend and my pri sch tcher's dg. K also told me last backup can be her friend but she's not sure if can or not. I can't help but realise how my friend's handling this lor... apparently not v gd host? I dunno. Waiting for her to call me later in the evening coz she's out from this morning.

I feel v blessed. Amid such unexpected happenings, I do have people who are so willing to help me or just bless me. Rach came over last nite to tombang her luggage and she brought sambal skate (she had long wanted to cook for me but didn't hv chance to) and assam prawns. So I had the skate for lunch...it tastes like stingray except the meat tastes more rubbery..more like chicken..

Sambal skate..YUMS

Anyway didn't do much today...find it a bit boring..so tomorrow will probably head to lib to borrow some DVDs to watch over weekend n next wk. K hiring "Get Smart" from video shop tonight.

Dinner tonight: Beef schnitzel with potato salad and boiled broccoli...

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

happy but not so happy

Finally the draft of funding proposal and proj proposal are done so now only awaiting confirmation from agency side and should be able to submit. Fingers itched again so decided to bake today instead of tmr...made Apple Cake...turned out well but coz I cubed the apple, when I cut the cake up, the cake fell apart lah...the top layer is supposed to be sugar and cinnamon and think coz I didn't use icing or caster sugar, it looks as it is now..haha..

Sigh..now feeling sad coz my friend in Melb whom I'm supposed to bunk in with at her aunt's place now say her uncle dun want anymore visitors so I'm homeless!! Desperately need to find accom else have to postpone my trip to 30th dec to early Jan when min comes over (coz then her uncle n aunt are not ard). Sigh..the thing is also so last minute lor. Trying to find all who are staying in Melb to help. Coz if stay at backpackers, I'll prob change my flight instead...sigh..sad lahhhh!! Was so looking forward to it....whyyyyy????

Family Fun Day!

Yup, so we had a Family Fun Day in church today. It was quite fun coz it was small gathering (coz Pilgrim is a small church). Service was planned to include the kids which was v thoughtful but there were only like 7 of them?

After service there was still cuppa (as what the locals call tea refreshments) and met some people (was introduced to retired pastor who visited some Lutheran churches in S'pore recently but not BLC, a younger lady and her mum and a girl prob a few years younger than me, Suzanne). Oh, the pastor is going on R&R from mid Dec to March! Now I understand why Ps's wife, Carolyn suggested bringing my family out with her family coz her daughter or son's family is coming over Christmas..something like that..shall see how coz next week will be my last wk before I "disappear" for abt 3 weeks of church..hehe..

Had some games for the kids which Suzanne and I watched and played for one game. I realised I miss planning stuff for kids or events...brought back some memories from tfsc days and even nyp days when we had events..oh..and the latest was OT day for my workplace..

Though I had to keep repeating where I came from, what I'm here for, where I stay, what are my plans after I graduate and hols etc., it was quite enjoyable meeting new people and just basking in God's love. Guess what? The impression people have when I asked how they find SG is "it's VERY CLEAN!!!". Oh yes, today's gospel was great as well..Particularly want to share this that appeared on the front of the church bulletin:
As our generous Father, God gifts his children with talents and abilities so that we may live fruitful and giving lives. Because he is the Great Giver, we too, as his children, are to reflect his nature and be generous in the sharing of our abilities and talents. Jesus himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive' (Acts 20:35). As we give of ourselves, those around us will be richly blessed and God's kingdom will come upon them. May others come to be blessed through your genersity, just as you have been by God's.

Anyway, here are some pics to share...didn't manage to take pic with the Khoos (the ones who gave me invited me for dinner one evening, gave me hei bee hiam, kaya and pandan chiffon cakes) coz they didn't come today.

The spread of salads that we had..the sausages and meat patties are on the BBQ (not pictured)
My new friend, Suzanne (amazing how I only met her today though she grew up in this church and have been attending it for a while)

great and amusing read

Read this in today's ST Life! and thought it was quite candid!

If you are like me, then lately you would probably find yourself having more and more meals that feature cold dishes, dishes that have large infestations of mushrooms/fungus and various foods that can best be described as braised.

Yup, it's wedding season again and this year, I am recommending that you eat sparingly.
Banquet food has been shown by fictional scientists to affect the brain. After three bowls of braised ee-fu noodles with mushrooms, you start to get woozy and to have peculiar thoughts.

'This tastes quite good,' you say to yourself. 'But I don't want to keep paying upwards of $100 a meal to eat it while making small talk with strangers.

'If only there was a way to gather my friends and family and have them all chip in to the...'

Next thing you know, you're proposing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing. It's just expensive. And times are bad.

But if you want to go ahead and do it anyway, I am here to offer some helpful hints on how to cut corners on your special day.

One main source of marriage spending for men is, of course, the diamond engagement ring. For reasons no one has ever explained, this ring is the one gift where it is perfectly acceptable for the recipient to know how much it costs.

Every woman I know who has been proposed to knows exactly how big the rock is and how much her fiance paid for it.

Why? Is it purely to show off? It's sort of like boasting about the amount of downpayment you put on a house, the only difference being a house often lasts longer than marriages.

As far as I'm concerned, the higher the downpayment you have to put on something, the less the seller trusts you to actually buy it.

Okay, so Tip #1: If you want to get away with buying a cheaper ring, try reciting the previous two paragraphs out loud to your girlfriend.

If a cheaper ring is still too expensive, you may want to consider Tip #2: The family heirloom gambit.
This is a simple two-step trick.
Step 1: Look for your mother or grandmother
Step 2: Ask her to give you her engagement ring.

If your girlfriend asks why you are proposing to her with a ring that's old, a bit rusty and engraved with the words 'John and Martha forever', you simply have to tell her that it is a 'family heirloom'.

Be sure to stress how much sentimental value it has and how your mother/grandmother would part with it only for someone truly special.

The major benefit of this method is that it costs nothing.

If she doesn't fall for any of the above measures and you are forced to fork out several months' salary for a ring, the least you can do is to insure the ring against an aborted wedding. This can be done with a carefully worded message engraved on it.

What you want to remember here is Tip #3: The engraving on the ring should include your name but not hers.

What John did with Martha's ring was only half right. Because his name is on it, Martha would not be inclined to keep the ring if the wedding was called off. But he can't jolly well give it to another woman. A better version would be simply 'John loves You' or 'John and You forever'. This ring, after it's thrown in his face, can be recycled for future proposals.

The other major expense in any given wedding is the banquet.

The best way to save money, short of cooking everything yourself is Tip #4: Buy a second-hand banquet.

Thanks to a friend who recently called off his wedding at the last minute, I discovered that there is a burgeoning second-hand banquet market out there.

At any given time, there seems to be dozens of people who have decided either not to get married or can't make it on that date.

So they list their banquets on the Internet and you can pick one up at a steep discount - provided, that is, you are not picky about minor details such as the date of the dinner and what's on the menu.

This may be a hardsell to your fiancee, but you can try the fengshui argument.

You: 'Honey, I think Nov28 is an excellent date to get married.'
Fiancee: 'WHAT? That's tomorrow!'
You: 'My geomancer said it's auspicious'.

Of course, instead of a last-minute wedding, you can pick a time frame and then hope a second-hand slot opens up.

You: 'Hi, I'm getting married. Here's your invite.'
Guest: 'Congratulations! When is it?'
You: 'October-ish. Maybe November. I'm not sure yet. I have my eye on this couple's banquet. Their engagement looks shaky. Apparently he gave her a cheap ring and called it a family heirloom.'

So there you go, some simple, easy-to-do tips to save thousands upon thousands of dollars on your wedding.

Here's hoping you have a good one. I got you a wedding gift. And I had it engraved too.
It says : 'Jeremy congratulates You.'

making progress

1.5 assignments done! Submitted the EBP one already though the due date is next fri. Managed to cut my 3-page-limit assignment to 4 pages now...still hv to cut more but am glad managed to cut irrelevant points. Now left with the critical one worth 50%. Spent last night and this morning working on the proposal, editing and putting in stuff. Eyes very tired. I just hope to finish asap...but of cuz, must meet standard! I'm actually quite looking forward to doing some running later in the late afternoon...the sun is out and shining very very brightly today and the weather seems quite cool - at least no need for air con.

Read that special schs will be renamed to avoid stigma! That's gd news...think very often such schools or places or stuff meant for people with disabilities will be CLEARLY identified in labels/signs etc. After reading some studies, services for them should not just be exclusive for them coz in certain aspects, they shouldn't be considered any different from us. Coz they often are special in their names, people feel that they need special expertise to reach out to them. Strange huh? But true.

shopping spree

Went back Uni today to collect one of my assignments...is the lit review which constitutes 15% of my 9-unit module. Got a credit only...quite sad lah..but given the comments, it's good tt I get a credit and not P1. After tt decided to drop by TT Plaza area coz Cheap as Chips was having some opening specials. Bought many 150g bars of cadbury choc (for family to bring back else I keep for self..haha!). And the other intention was to get the Diadora sport shoes that Kmart advertised for $29. But there wasn't...instead hv another one meant for netball and it was at $33. Saw a pair of strappy sandals gg for $12 and was tempted to buy but didn't in the end (I'm quite good at controlling eh?). Bought Red Rock Deli chips (no, yi, not for u..coz is the big bag one..haha!)...dried apricots n sultanas and my choc seashells! And in order not to keep spending on food/groceries, I stopped myself from gg into coles (they dun really hv much specials this week anyway).

Then coz I wanted to get sth from Cheap as Chips but tt branch didn't hv so decided to drop by the city's branch on my way home. And they had...and to my surprise, they sold what I was looking for - a long necklace with butterfly pendant..I saw one which had the butterfly hanging straight from both ends and thought to myself, how nice if is only held on one end...and I saw this! Somemore in pink! Lovely..hehe..so I decided to get it!

Then decided to try my luck at the Kmart near my place...and it was the only one left for my size..was deciding whether to get it or the other one gg for $20 and decided on this. Quite motivated to run now to get in shape again..prob will start tmr since weather forecast max is 21deg. Oh...temp today was nice..think it was around 27deg? Sunny yet not too warm coz had cool winds blowing.

Came home and went online. Another assignment (15% of my 6-unit module) was returned via email..and I got HD!! V happy for that coz my splint was terribly done..so hope can make up for it. Hopefully my overall grade for that will be at least a D. Still have a 15% due on 19th and I'm more or less done but have to cut down words!

Went to foodland after coming home to dump my stuff coz wanted to buy some mixed nuts they advertised but dun have again! Ended up buying other stuff and I finally decided to make potato salad for Family Day at church on Sunday. Anyway here's the coconut agar agar I made..not v well-taken..but they're definitely a hit in warm weathers!

hot day but was not so hot

Was working on my part for the proposal assignment since yesterday. Hope it goes smoothly but I'm prepared to do bulk of the editing. Anyway, made roast chicken for dinner today...not too bad...

Oh..yday was working on the proposal in uni's comp pool then the couple next to me were hanky-panky-ing so much that I was v disturbed...they're asians somemore..for goodness sake. So I left earlier to go Koorong (Christian bkshop) and CM. I was looking for a gift for friend's wedding but didn't really know which to buy so found one small pocket book. Prob add something else. Then I also bought 2 fiction books that were going for $1 each and some pass-it-on cards and guess what...all had 20%! I thought those on offer won't have...so I'm blessed..hah..was quite tempted to buy Men are like Waffles, Women are like Spaghetti coz it was going for AUD$14.95 (if I rem correctly) and plus 20%..but didn't in the end. It's really vv rare that I buy books..haha..total opposite from my bro.

Yup..yday and today temp above 32 deg! I just hid in the house today with air con switched on...will prob head out tomorrow to collect my assignment from uni and drop by Kmart to check out the sports shoes they advertised in their catalogue. Hopefully tmr won't be too wet coz forecast is showers..

I'm more or less done with my self-reflection report due on 19th...prob have to cut down my words coz going by the page limit, I exceeded by double. Nt sure if can change font size..haha!

4 months

It's been 4 months since I arrived here...how fast time flies. Have been loving it here except do get homesick at times (esp the food and the past mth) and keep snacking + limited exercise! And seldom get cheap footwear...hmph...

Uni classes have officially ended and I'm kinda on hol yet working on assignments. The one tt's due on 21st is more or less complete while the one due on 19th is somewhat there but not sure what else to write coz it's a self-reflection report. The final one which has the highest weightage of 50% of my 9-unit module is not there yet. Have to determine our project direction tomorrow when we meet with staff of lfl. Saw v's fb and it read she wanna complete proposal asap so she can go home. I'm quite worried abt tt proposal actually...it still seems like I'm the one pushing thigns along though she's improving..taking more initiative here and there. Just hope she puts her heart and soul into it. I don't want to be pulled down...sigh...

Having headache now..think it's coz of the weather. Anyway I'm taking up knitting (hv been wanting to do it but didn't hv time n someone to teach me) during the hols..prob learn a bit from rach. Oh..she's staying over for a night in dec coz she'll be "homeless"..haha..can't quite understand uni hostel system but whatever..ha..

Next Sunday church having Family Day kinda thing and they having sausage sizzle (aka BBQ sausages). Apparently, ppl here LOVE BBQ-ing sausages..haha..everyone is asked to bring a salad but I may bring a dessert instead..ha..

Speaking of which, have been reading articles about people pursuing qualifications in pastry, baking, cooking etc. and personally am quite interested but they cost a bomb! And I also know tt I don't have to pursue a qualification to show my keen interest coz look at what I've experimented and made up so far! I'm amazed at myself too..haha...maybe I inherited my mum's cooking/baking genes (so has my bro actually for cooking genes). The thing is if I do attend cooking/baking classes, they usually use stuff that are not tt readily available. I prefer to use simple ingredients...just in their original state..n play around with ingredients. I'm already finding source for peanuts coz I'm v tempted to make peanut cookies for CNY period!

Made coconut agar agar yday...hv yet to take a nice pic of it..hah..and btw, my tomato plant is growing well!! Hope to hv harvest in summer..hehe

my day

Just submitted my assignments which are due on fri. Not v confident of these...just did what I can. Working on the other 2 now..the last one still hv to give it some thought coz it's the proj proposal...sians...

Cooked curry just now..k loved it again..I personally find it not bad also..haha!

Basically my day is just sitting in front of laptop completing my assignments, playing online puzzles and listening to the tv which was switched on for the US elections..

last day of uni this yr

Had our last formal cls in Uni today...had presentations for our proj aims, objectives etc. and still have feedback tt we have to be more community participatory!! ARghs..a bit dunno how else to do coz my partner also dun really know despite having some cls on it last yr i heard.

After tt went to chat with my program coordinator abt modules for next yr. Have 2 courses (or called modules) that I can earn credit if I plan to do my Masters in the future..one is a 4.5unit one and another is 9-unit one n is offered in Jan-feb intensive course. Will prob decide after I'm more or less done with my assignments.

After tt went to send off the tas tourism bklet which cost me $17+ coz of its weight. Even the counter staff commented n wondered why it's ex to mail stuff to Singapore! Happen to meet Sarah too. Dropped by CM and bought 2kg worth of chicken wings n xiao bai cai...then went back to sch lib coz realised I was supposed to borrow some books but I happily walked out of uni.

Then after my shower, coz I removed my earrings and carefully put in the soap dish fearing it'll drop down the drain at the shower area. Then wanted to wash it a little at the sink and guess what? One side dropped into the sinK!! The sink here does not hv the filter..so the hole is quite big. Just at that time when I was using a torch and scissors to try and dig, k came home so I asked if can remove the tube or something. Coz it was screwed quite tightly, she suggested getting j or neighbour or her 'handyman' friend to help. Thought not much chance already. Then went to transplant the tomato plant into the garden with k's help and I did same for my carrot tops. After that I realised tt carrots tops dun give us carrots! hahaha...what a joke! How ignorant am I! Then when j came home, he agreed to help and he managed to open it and thanks to the U shaped tube, I managed to retrieve my fave butterfly ear rings..hee.

Finally can sleep in tomorrow n the rest of the week/s! Hope can sleep well lah...anyway today's Melb cup..no wonder I saw the hotels (aka pubs) I saw on my way home were filled with ppl..was wondering how come at 3+pm it was so crowded and ppl were drinking.

Oh ya, forgot to mention tt on Sun, when k gave me a lift to the city, we saw a mother duck and her ducklings crossing the road and the cars had to stop to give way! I just rem that I shld mention coz today saw dogs crossing the road. But the sight of duck and ducklings were soooo cute..ha...and yday when I was waiting for the bus, a lady asked where I was from (after chatting tt the bus was late) and she said she could tell I was frm SG and wanted to ask if I was..haha! Do I sound that SGrean?!?!

market day again

And so I went to Gilles St Market again today to get Flexflops..but nope, they're not for me. Anyway I chose this pouch to swop with the pink one I bought the other day (yi, black ok for you right?). Was tempted to get another pair actually but I didn't..haha...initially got the VIP one (but in black)..then saw the "I love shoes" very me..so I got tt for myself instead. Will prob give the VIP one away as a bday gift..
Didn't see other nice and unique stuff...had some changes in stalls and there were 2 stalls selling homemade desserts (as in like rocky road, quiches, brownies, muffins etc.) and I was kinda tempted to set up stall lor! Haha..
After tt went to Kmart and coles (waited vvv long for the bus coz it's Sunday)..got myself a 500ml sunscreen n green curry paste from coles. At Kmart, i got myself a tomato plant and a pot (to transplant my carrot). Came home and checked what's required to grow tomato..n realised it was kinda a wrong move coz it requires lots of water. Cooked baked pasta for dinner (glad they liked it). Anyway after dinner chatted with k then found out she attempted before but failed coz the soil here is not good. Shall try my luck...

I'm playing hide and seek with my mum online.....arghs! Yay! Tue will be my last day of formal uni cls...after tt will be mtgs at lfl and prob staying at home to finish assignments...

post-Halloween

It's 1st Nov already...how fast time flies..on 9th Nov, I'll be here for 4 mths!

Anyway yday was Halloween..but nah, didn't do treat-or-trick..was invited to Jenny's (k's friend) place for dinner to celebrate k's last day of 3 years of uni. Was quite pissed yday in uni. Had splint eval which I think I'll do terribly badly. Simply not cut out to be a hand therapist! ARGHS. Anyway, then after tt v lost her thumbdrive n spent like 2+hrs looking for it n crying over spilled milk when we were supposed to hv our proj meeting. Not that I've no compassion but come on lah..no point keep thinking about it and not move on? She could've used half of tt time to retype her assignment coz she printed out a draft! Good on her..else consequences is disastrous. Maybe I seemed a bit dun care but I was totally in a foul mood yday lah. Came home after getting groceries from coles..waited 1/2hr for stupid bus when actually if I were to walk home it'll take me ard 20mins..but coz I bought rice n juice, too heavy to walk home.

So by the time I came home, hurriedly made apple and date pie (k chose apple pie over apple cake when I asked which I should bake) and since I had v ripe mangoes, I decided to make cheesecake...so I spent like 2.5h on baking then headed off for dinner. Dinner was great..felt quite at home coz Jenny was v casual and welcoming. Hah..and I got GREAT comments abt my apple pie..she said is the best apple pie she has ever had and said the pastry is great..she would''ve kept the leftover if she wasn't on a diet..hah..so guess who took it home..I also didn't expect it to turn out so nice also..hehe..here're 2 pics of it...

As for the mango and passionfruit yoghurt cheesecake, realised it didn't set this morning (Actually I had a strong feeling it wouldn't coz I didn't add much agar agar powder..haha! so I went to bake it hoping it can set more firmly...so it turned out like this:

and YES! It turned out to be vvv yummy! But it's vv fattening..haha..the cost of making cheesecake here is so much lower...seriously..k said "it's beautiful" when she first ate it...and yes, she's right..it's vv yummy!

Called home just now but mum was sleeping..anyway, now praying for full recovery and tt she can travel lah...hope tmr won't rain coz planning to go market. Assignments gg pretty ok..was just terribly worried abt the pcp (joint proj) one tt's 50% of my 9-unit module. It'll also be carried over to next yr...n just hope someone takes more initiative and produces more quality work. Sigh...

ending cls

Just when we thought lectures for EO were over, our dear lecturer emailed to inform that there was a final lecture this pm on job dictionaries (which we kinda went through in nyp). Today was quite warm..was in dri-fit top and berms..short of wearing slippers only (think I've been trained well in nyp tt dun allow students to wear flip flops..haha!) Good to attend the lect coz I didn't know aust had their own..and I cited from US one in my prev assignment..hah! Anyway the lect gave kinda like a farewell speech as well coz it's officially the last EO lesson for the course..and she showed us a video clip meant for marketing of UniSA...n she mentioned she like the name EO (Enabling Occupation) coz OT is abt enabling..how true..told v it's much nicer than in nyp..OTTP..haha!

Anyway after tt met Su Yi to go CM and chinatown..end up without any vege (only potato which according to Su Yi is considered a vege here) but ended up with 3 small mangoes, potatoes and 1 punnet of strawberries. Coz the mangoes and strawberries are kinda ripe, I'm v tempted to make desserts with them! Had my 大排卤蛋面 again..

Called mum to get updates (supposedly due for d/c tmr) and chatted with yi also..hehe..she's waiting for me to go HCM!! Whee! Must really start planning my AL when I return to work..it's comforting to hear of ppl's concern for my mum esp when I'm away (thanks to these wonderful people!).

Hope I've time to bake apple cake or mango cheesecake (can't quite decide but I guess prob apple cake coz cheesecake needs time to set) to bring over for the gathering..it's Halloween tmr but no, not doing treat and trick...

retail therapy?

Went over to rach's place yday after our mtg at lfl..support worker didn't come so we just worked on our proposal. Thanks to my good memory, I managed to make my way to the correct unit..haha...and heng mao was in kitchen to open the main door for me. Glad rach liked or appreciated the alphabet cheese biscuits I made..heh...then went Cheap as Chips and I got myself a 2009 calendar cum whiteboard...some of u may know I had wanted to get a small whiteboard but haven't quite found the ideal one so I was happy to see this as well. Bought some simpsons bubble gum tapes as well..hah..

Today went for our final lecture for PCP..next wk is informal presentations..the lecture on media was v interesting...enjoyed it. I find it strange why asians seldom give compliments..instead of saying ppl enjoy eating the biscuits, they say ppl didn't hv bfast! Crap! Went to woolies hoping to get snickers share pack tt they advertised but they didn't have...was tempted to buy ice cream again! Haha..maybe fri or Sun then buy since I'll be out. On my way back just thot can drop by Salvos..think when I'm tired from working on assignments or feeling too busy, I will eat quite a lot or go for a little retail therapy. And so, I got this dress! Had wanted to buy a dress (what they call summer dress here) to wear esp during the HOT weather..yup..and since this fit me quite nicely, and with the rather cheap price, I bought it. Tried on a pair of roxy khaki corduroy long pants but coz it was bell-bottomed, didn't get it.

Cooked 宫保鸡丁 for dinner just now..think k and j liked it coz only had rice and button mushrooms leftover from the dish. I added diced chicken breast meat, chinese cabbage, button mushrooms and cashew nuts. Doesn't taste like the real 宫保 seasoning I hv been eating though..but it was not too bad..
Just got news...mum got admitted again...

bread and stuff

Just had my breakfast and drinking hazelnut latte now...slit the buns into 3 parts so I spreaded cream cheese and jam on upper layer and peanut butter on lower layer. A word that sums it: YUMS! To add on, the bun was crusty on the outside and just simply doesn't seem as hard as they look!

Had wanted to get a square loaf bread from church (the system here works similarly to Food From The Heart except here church members rotate to collect bread from the outlet) but there wasn't last wk and yday..so yday took buns instead.

Anyway baked cheese fingers yday and brought some over to K's sis's place which is 'just round the corner' for driving. They simply love it! Played ard with the flavours yday so one batch was cheese, rosemary (fresh), garlic and black pepper. Other batch was cheese with Ozzie Wildfire seasoning...hah..this time the cheese not tt strong smell. Maybe keep longer will hv stronger taste (from what I gathered the last time). But I saw the container I put outside...finishing soon! Packed some for LFL staff and tmr's sch to share with friends (coz they say they see my food pics and were in quite disbelief I made all of those..haha!)

Oh ya, was reading papers online and saw article abt Christmas deco up. Not sure if I had already mentioned but deco here has been up for some time and it's pathetic compared to our orchard rd! Haha..I'll prob be gg for the Christmas pageant on 8th Nov..it's like our chingay parade I think..

Hoping to finish my 2 assignments this weekend..then I'll have 3 more to go (including a joint one for my proj proposal worth 50% of the 9-unit module!) before I've my break! Time flies..so fast half way there already! Anyway got good news on Sat...min will be reserving/booking her flight to melb frm SG end dec to mid jan. If all goes well, jun (in melb) and min will prob drop by Adl before we go Syd together or if jun's aunt decides to drive then I may go over to melb again (air fare is cheaper there anyway) and then we drive to Syd n back. Depends...

getting warm

Just heard news update: A max temp of 37 deg tmr!! GOSH! I'm going to do my work in the living room with air con on tmr..hahaha! Anyway the air con has been switched on the whole day today already.

Thank God for the last minute arrangement made by the wonderful csc staff at lfl who made most of our home visits possible today. He even drove us ard to homes coz we don't have cars. It was really vvv interesting seeing support workers working with clients and chatting with clients as well. Guess we realised that the problem isn't really about the lack of knowledge of choosing the right food but more of their functional ability? I really wanna work as a support worker if given a chance to coz it's a great opportunity to support the clients and being an OT will certainly improve QOL of the clients. But coz the req is a first aid cert, I can't apply for tt job. Oh well...when i was a student, I didn't feel comfortable chatting with clients and I would say I'm rather quiet...like what feedback I was given for my prev attachments. But after starting work, I kinda changed somehow or rather..haha...like how my bro said he can't imagine tt I can be tt gentle as the OT he saw at work in my mum's ward. Guess I found the "light". Hahaha...

Watching Harry Potter on tv now..coz I dun wanna spend too much time in front of my laptop..just using it in case my family wanna chat. Made myself baked pasta with the leftovers from yday. Happy to say tt I've kinda finished my leftovers (except for bee hoon for tmr's bfast) coz I've been eating my leftovers for bfast as well. So tmr may cook dinner..also since k is out whole day. j had his thesis presentation today so he's pretty much graduated. Heard he's prob looking for casual job at coles before relocating in feb.

Since tmr is hot, will prob cook barley and ice cream! Yums..hv been having my gourmet ice cream the past 2 nights..chocolate honey nougat..hehe..bought chocolate brownie flavour yday.

busy busy

Had been busy the past 2 days...leaving the hse before everyone else but still manage to be home before 6.30pm. Anyway it was quite "strange" coz for both days didn't see j...coz he has been staying late at uni..prob pia-ing his thesis..so I would've slept. And coincidentally both of us are at home today..hah! He made his fave banana smoothie and offered me...think he added yoghurt. I've been having it since morning coz realised a bit filling...so drank slowly..haha

Mon went to an industrial visit to see a manufacturing company which employs staff with disabilities...quite an eyeopener coz in SG, usually these companies do packing, assembly stuff but here, more physical demands are required in their jobs. Then after tt went LFL to chat with their support workers abt one of the cts for our proj. Had black forest cheesecake there, thanks to the wife of one of the staff! Heh..it was yummy! After the meeting, went for the OT week launch at City West campus...is basically the poster presentations of 4th years' PCP projects. Was telling v if next yr also have, I won't be ard...haha...it kinda reminded me of our LLD poster but ours had more standard coz all of us were required to print our A0-sized posters.

Yday had lecture and talked abt working in partnership for our PCP projects. Was quite good coz I managed to put across to v tt I hope to see more initiativeness from her and I'll also take a step back not to be too efficient. Also told her I prefer quality as opposed to fast-ness. We kinda made it clear to separate work rel n friendship as well and I actually told her my concern when I know tt I was partnering her...she also understood. Hope the partnership will work lah.

Went to CM and Chinatown after cls to buy fruits. Ended up buying tanghoon and shanghai rice cake (yup, i kinda like it coz my ah ma used to cook it when it's my ah gong's death anniversary I believe...). Shall try my hand at it some day...

Chatted with ah ma last nite and she was telling me who went to visit my mum and tell me not to worry..haha! Oh...my mum was d/c on Mon and is resting at home already..

Submitted my assignment tt's due tmr just now. Working on 1 of the 2 due on 7th Nov...today's home visit was cancelled..Awaiting fri's and prob will hv more next wk ...hv splint fabrication assessment tmr..arghs...oh ya, just to update, I got D (read: distinction, not grade D) the assignment tt was 35% of one of my modules..quite happy..hope can maintain D for tmr's splint and another 3 more assignments (the two due 7th nov and another based on our industrial visit) to get overall grade!

Just a random note...
Cheesecake-flavoured yoghurt goes very well with plain scotch finger biscuits! Tastes like eating real cheesecake! Haha...and Cadbury's Old Gold liquer choc is sooo yummy! Read: FAT

Market day

Thanks Elain, for specially visiting my mum! Good to hear kiv d/c on mon...but still have to make sure everything's ok and proper diagnosis given.

After church today, planned to meet rach and mao to go to Gilles St Market...decided to drop by Rundle's first but it was really small compared to those in Sydney. Ended up walking along Rundle Mall and decided I will get a long necklace preferably with butterfly motif...when it's within my budget...hahaa! Coz I have 2 plain lycra tops (tt I usually wear for work kind) which if I wear it here seems a bit plain unless I add a necklace. Here, ppl enjoy accessorising.

Anyway coz I was early, I walked a few rounds and snapped this pic of the smoothie stall. At first I didn't see how it was a smoothie stall coz I only saw bicycle and deejays and heard loud music. Then after that then I realised. They connect the blender to the bicycle...so they have to cycle in order to work the blender!

There was a stall selling corn on the cob for $3...daylight robbery! Anyway, another food stall selling dunno-what-cuisine gave out free lunch boxes they were selling at $10..think so they can close shop. What I recognised were black olives, octopus, capsicums and chicken drumette. The other 2 things were not within my knowledge. Anyway it was a cold dish platter kind of thing. Saw some stuff but either not my size or not what find within my budget. Some dresses selling for $100 also just hang on racks...quite amazed lah

Was walking around and saw this...was tempted to get coz I wanted another pair of thongs (eyeing havianas to hv cheap ones)...walked a few rounds and decided to get it. Didn't want the PINK pouch actually but can't swop coz they come tog with the thongs...and so happen rach n mao won't fit a S (which the brown pouch I prefer..see below) and I can't think of anyone else who can fit..yup, so I just settled for it.

Came home and surfed their website...Saw that the retail on the website is like US$25-$32 and I only got it for $5! V happy with my buy..I love the packaging also..I may buy something to add on to it to make it uniquely MINE!

Weather was HOT today...actually not that HOT coz of cool winds blowing..but I think I can't stand the scorching sun...make me get headache and prob sunburn only.

Oh yes, thanks Rach (and her friend who got it) for the latest SOP CD! Listening to it now!

Awaiting for k to be back from church and BBQ to start for dinner...think tonight's will be more stuff coz j is ard..haha..

hot hot hot

Still praying for full recovery and the Dr's wisdom in finding the cause and diagnosis....

Got told off by bro coz I put tt "I wanna go home"...said I keep saying, he regrets telling me..oops..then he obs an OT at work..said can't imagine me to be so gentle. Oh well..depends on the type of ct I'm working with mah...but usually I'm quite chor lor I think..hehe...

It's been getting vv warm here. Yday was ard 33-36deg!! I was in short sleeves outside for the 1st time..and slept in t-shirt and shorts last nite for the first time since I came here.

Now...the air conditioner in the living rm is on and outside is scorching! Weather forecast for the next week is above 25 deg max and min only 1 day 8deg..the rest above 10deg. I dun really like the sun coz feels like u can cook an egg with it! Yup, it's that scorching.

Yday's informal discussion with cts was fun...except didn't have tt much chemistry with my partner but it was alright. I had fun...haha...realised I quite miss chatting with cts.

Lit review due thurs is almost done..just trying to find other words besides "suggested". Working on one of the assignments due 7th Nov. Hopefully we can do our data collection next wk else really not enough time!!

sigh

Sigh..heard the bad news yday and just so wanted to fly home.

Anyway today in sch made wrist cockup splint (the one we did back in nyp) but I wasn't v good at it still. At least mine didn't have much pen marks, finger marks and finger prints...and to finish it off, we were given fluoroscent pink straps! My goodness.

Was quite tired today..good that the lect/tut was condensed to a workshop and ended early.

Tmr gg LFL in the afternoon for our 1st client "interview"...

Awaiting for dad's sms to let me know if convenient to call mum.

update

Haven't updated over the weekend coz had quite a busy and enjoyable weekend =) Tiring though.

Was terribly sleepy in class today and to add on to it, our tutor talked about some confusing stuff of evaluation of our needs analysis phase of our projs. After tt went to CM to get some groceries. Vege and fruits were not tt cheap today...looking forward to the mango season coz now is only the starting of it and it'll usually get cheaper..cheapest I saw today was $1 but it was vvv small. Anyway, mangoes here are super sweet and fragrant!!

Seems that the meeting with lfl's support workers yday (which I couldn't attend) was cancelled so i dun feel tt bad in a way..haha..hope we can start our data collection this week. In the meantime, shall work on my lit review due next thurs..n prob gg to sleep in tmr...and if hands itch again, prob make more cheese fingers/biscuits coz what I made was finished within 2 days again! haha...will try to add more flavours to it this time.

baking day

Mixed fruit and nut biscotti

Cheese fingers

Yup, I baked today! While making the cheese fingers, the image of my cousin (cy) taking the container and munching anyway over this CNY came to my mind..haha! Honestly, the cheese here seems saltier than the one I used back home..haha..both are cheddar. K said it may be coz she also found it difficult to find nice cheese in Japan. Packed some for my trip and left the rest for K & J. K simply loves when I bake...she's the 1st person I know who eats uncooked dough and whatever leftover cake mixture on mixing bowls! Interesting eh? She said she used to do that since young...great to have a 'dishwasher' (as what she called herself) around during baking huh? Saves the hassle of cleaning the bowls so that the sink won't be clogged.

Aust $ drop again!! Seems like now is on par with SG $!

Anyway took these photos some time ago...just snapped them along my walks

and this is a vase bag that k used...her friend got it for her from England...such a simple idea (used in soap/detergent refills also) yet doubt anyone thought about it in SG!

Anyway, I dun wanna talk abt my proj...irritated with my partner! I shall sit back, relax n see what she comes up with...enough of me directing...haha..leaders also need breaks, right? So, Floriade, here I come!!

Daylight savings...BLEAH!

Daylight savings is not my friend!!

Sigh...been quite tired lately...haven't had a good rest coz of daylight savings, thinking of my project and I guess being disturbed by banging of doors n stuff when j wakes up earlier than us. I've concluded that the walls here are thinner than back home..hahaha!

Yday went back uni and discussed about our upcoming lit review assignment and update on needs analysis. Some groups have started while others have not. Ours still considered planning phase but will get it going next week. Having mtg at LFL later and hope we can settle whatever tt needs to be done for next week.

Weather-wise...it was abt 16deg yday and today looks gloomy as well..forecast says possible showers. Tmr will be mostly cloudy and weekend is gg up to 29deg!! How erratic can this spring get?

Oh ya, in case some of you can't find me on MSN in the evenings (ur time), it's prob coz internet is not working very well or I've gone to meet zhou gong (coz of the 2.5hrs time diff). Internet has been cranky the previous evening and last evening! Not sure if it's coz many ppl using at same time and somehow or rather quota exceeded.

Oh..another thing, Emilie invited me for a trip to KI like end Oct/early nov period over the weekend...estimated cost for bus & ferry is $140 and accommodation ard $15/night. Own expenses for food. Not v sure if I should join her/them though I told her tt I've plans to bring my family there when they come over. And she also said I'm welcome to join her and her family for Christmas! Hah...how nice!

weekend

Weekend was alright..was given 3 粽子 today...so blessed eh? Hah..

Had a good chat with Elain on msn...rare chance tt we both (or rather she) have the chance to do tt. Then found out tt she'll be in Syd for her grad end nov but too bad she can't take more AL so unable to fly to adl to meet me or fly to melb.

Yday when I woke up, i quickly hoped to make sure that everything's ok at home coz lately parents n aunt not online and even bro seldom online. Bro claimed not everyone's so free to come online. Well, I do hope so...coz haven't been sleeping well too and eye twitched a few times today.

Daylight savings has started...bleah! Means I'm 2.5hrs ahead of SG...sigh...so now it's 5.25pm while it's only 2.55pm back home. Tmr is PH..prob will be staying at home since nowhere will be open anyway. My first PH in adl..haha..then it's back to uni on tue...I'm so looking forward to Floraide!!

harbourtown and glenelg

Good news! Checked my email and found tt 2 assignments are returned...EBP Assignment (worth 40% of my 4.5unit module) and PCP assignment (worth 20% of my 9-unit module). I scored HD and D respectively and I was over the moon when I saw my results..haa..btw, HD stands for High Disctinction (85-100%) and D stands for Distinction (75-84%) (now, this is the kind of D we hope to get and not the A-F grading eh?). Also got back a pair work assignment for PCP worth 15% on tue..tt one only got Credit (65-74%)...praise the Lord! I was saying tt it's my lucky day then rach reminded me is not luck but hard work! Haha...

Anyway went to Harbourtown and Glenelg today with Rach n Su Yi. I didn't get anything from Harbourtown..kept telling myself not to get anything unless I wanna wear/use while I'm there. I'll probably get some stuff before I return home or when family comes over...had really fresh fish and chips for lunch at Glenelg but it was fattening! Haha..

Just watched "Dear God". Borrowed a total of 4 DVDs coz I went lib twice today - 2 diff lib..hah..and I got bananas and green apples from CM. Tmr will prob walk to firle's coles to get chicken drumsticks so I dun hv to go again on tue/wed. Oh...and my lecturer emailed us to cancel the classes pn thur...win lor..means this week I'm only in uni on tue and at LFL on wed. Mon's PH (Labour Day)...oh n j's coming back on Sunday night...

BLESSED!

I got home not long from a homecooked chinese meal, thanks to Jerry n Annette (and Lucy, Annette's sis) from church! There was a wide spread and it was like a typical family dinner oz they had their niece and family over too...so total 8 of us. There was fried snook (a type of fish), watercress and pork rib soup (yumss! my fave), zucchini omelette, chicken wings and steamed egg (with salted egg as well) with minced pork. Yummy! It was a really last minute decision..Auntie Annette called me ard 3.30pm and kinda insisted I go over though I said I had leftovers. Then I felt v paiseh so hurriedly whipped something up to bring over and so I made this really simple-to-make tart:

Had good comments and her younger grandnephew (niece's son) had 2 slices..haha..which means is good? haha...and I was given a bottle of homemade pandan kaya, a bottle of cooked chilli, a container of hei bee! I'm so blessed!! Really thank God for such lovely people around! I can finally cook my chilli hei bee pasta and also I get to hv kaya!! Wheee!
